Our family here at American Prospector Treasure Seeker feels strongly about the importance of the education and
"how to" behind the techniques and methods of gold prospecting.  Although we have heard the wonderful stories of
people finding gold nuggets as they are just out "walking the dog" along a trail, we also know that the likelihood of
finding gold, or very much of it, without knowing where to look lowers your chances tremendously. We strongly urge
our customers and friends to read and watch videos about gold geology, how to read a river and understanding the
"most likely" areas for gold to be in the rivers, mountains and deserts.

Additionally, we welcome you to join our gold prospecting outings.  Our drywsahing, sluicing, nugget shooting and
gold panning outings allow you the benefit of getting out there and trying the different gold prospecting methods
hands on. This is especially beneficial after having done some reading and research on gold geology as mentioned
above.

Q: Is digging material and bringing it home a good way to find gold?
APTS A:  To improve your chances of finding gold, and more of it, using a sluice box in a river or a drywasher in the
desert and mountains (dry dirt prospecting) would be more efficient in your efforts gold prospecting.  It's to your
benefit to bring home
concentrates (the material that is recovered from your sluice box, drywasher or other
prospecting equipment) that have been run through your equipment home to pan, rather than digging buckets of dirt
and bringing those home. For most, the objective is to run as much material as possible maximizing their
opportunities to find gold, and more of it.

Q: What are the benefits of using a drywasher?
APTS A: Since the beginning of time, at least the beginning times of gold mining, the desert and mountains (where
water is not nearby) are the least prospected areas. For the simple reason that prospecting near water is easier
than prospecting in the deserts and mountains (dry dirt mining locations), especially back in the gold rush days with
their lack of drywashing equipment that we have available today.

Q:  What is the best size drywasher to use?
APTS A:  This answer will vary person by person based on their preference and prospecting philosophy.  Personal
preference plays a big role in how one choses to prospect for gold vs the person standing right next to them.  These
are questions I ask our customers.
* Will you be doing a lot of hiking?
* How many people will normally be working the drywasher?
* Are you looking to push a lot of dirt or cruise at a more relaxed pace?
These are a few key points that you may want to ask yourself when looking into what size drywasher would work
best for you.  The bigger the drywasher, the more material you have the ability to run at a faster pace.

Q: Do you have to classify your material before running it through a drywasher?
APTS A: Again, I'm going to use the "personal preference" scenario.  There are pros and cons to classifying vs not
classifying your material prior to running it through your drywasher.  My dad, Jim of American Prospector Treasure
Seeker works at an extremely fast pace and choses not to classify his material before running it.  Why?  His
philosophy is the more material he can run, the more chances of finding more gold, and bigger pieces. Eliminating
the classifying process allows more time to dig and dumps it directly into the hopper box.

On the flip side, others prefer to classify their material, most who do classify will classify down to 1/4 mesh prior to
running it through the drywasher.  Classifying your material will eliminate the bigger rocks and also allows the
drywasher to run a bit smoother without clogging.  The most important thing to keep in mind if you are one who
classifies material is to check your rocks, I REPEAT, check your rocks.  The last thing you want to do is throw away a
nugget because you assumed they were all rocks and no gold.  For even better results, we recommend having a
metal detector as well, before you leave for the day run your metal detector through your tailings piles.  We hear
stories often enough about nugget shooters going out and hitting drywasher tailings piles and scoring on nuggets.
It happens more often than you'd think!

Q: What is a good metal detector for me to use for gold?
APTS A:  This is a great question and again, to a certain degree, personal preference plays a role here as well as
your level of experience with metal detectors. As far as VLF detectors go, the White's GMT, White's GMZ, White's MXT,
Whites' MXT Pro, Fisher Gold Bug Pro, Garrett AT Gold, Minelab Eureka Gold and the Minelab Xtera 705 (as well as
others) are all great detectors for gold prospecting ~ nugget shooting.  The White's GMT and the Fisher Gold Bug
Pro are probably the most "user friendly" detectors on the market today.
